| I worked for several years as a nurse at camp. I have enjoyed this website. Camp Mishemokwa is not the current decaying buildings and grounds, but all the people who were touched by being there. The Smiths have enjoyed their retirement and have traveled the world in as busy a schedule as they had when working at camp. I am sure they wil be delighted to see this website too. | |||

| I just saw an episode of Rob & Big on MTV and they were at a camp jumping on "the blob". I called my husband into the room to show him and tell him how I did that exact thing at Camp Mishemokwa. I immediately went to the computer to Google the Camp, and was thrilled to see the Camp videos, and then this site! Reading all the comments, and seeing the videos and pictures really brings back great memories. Now I have to go dig through the huge suitcase of pictures that my parents have so that I can find the pics from my summer at the Camp, in 1981 (I think). I went with my two older brothers, and two of our friends from home. I saw someone mention the one night they didn't burn a shirt on a campout, a beetle crawled in his ear. They told us that story when we camped there. I remember having to put cotton balls in our ears. And, I remember being frighted to near death with the Acid Man story. My friend from home swears she saw his face in our camp window. I could go on and on with the stories from my 4 weeks there. My friend and I talked about going back, and becoming CITs, but we never did. | |||

| I was 13 years old when my cousin, my best friend an I traveled all the way from Puerto Rico to Camp Mishemokwa in the summer of 89. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I have a 10 year old daughter now, and I wish there is a camp she can go and enjoy as much as I enjoyed Camp Mishemokwa. Thanks for creating this page, it brings back grat memories. | |||

| I attended the camp in the summer of 1959 (I think!). Although I was never much of a basketball player, I dove into other activities, and had a great summer. On the last night of the camp, after six weeks, we all attended the award presentation. I was totally shocked and thrilled when I heard the camp owner, Mr. Johnson, state that “the best all-around camper trophy will go to a good ole Virginia boy – Doug Marks”. I treasured that trophy and that moment for a very long time. The next day, Mr. Johnson took me to the local airport in Hendersonville where I got on a Piedmont plane to Norfolk. Mom and Dad met me in Norfolk after my very first plane trip! | |||

| Late 70's. I rememeber...David Jones, my Counselor and math tutor, and John Menge (Arts n crafts) with his Mork from Ork suspenders. My best friends, Gary Fink from Charlotte and Richard Potter from Pensacola. Shooting rifles with the Smith brothers. I remember hiking up Mt Burnshurt (or whatever it was called) in the rain and the son of the Nature Instructor always being the first one to the top because he was an incredible runner. The day they shot a rattlesnake near the cabins and a few of us cooking and eating it. Messing around in the woods for roots to make tea. Salamander races and Xmas in July. Age 16 ('83)... Diving down under the blob to re-anchor it. Age 16...Driving the trash truck and dodging the campers in the mornings. Feeding the nasty smelly pigs what was left from Mess Hall behind the office and making campers that misbehaved do it. (ha ha ha) Repainting the water slide. Getting caught in the girl's cabin trying to wake up my 15 yr old CIT girlfriend, and then getting fired and sent home on the bus. Having the camp all to myself when the campers and most of the counselors went on their road trips. Cutting the grass and shoveling rocks.....A LOT. Climbing up the verticle side of that hill to sit in that little hole near the big feild. Pouring some chlorine stuff in the large concrete water things to make the water drinkable. Going to the Mess Hall at 11pm with Dr Smith and my other fellow yard dogs for fruit loops. I can go on and on..... | |||

Can't believe what some bored surfing can do for the memories. It is pleasing to see how much people got out of the camp. i was a counselor the summer of 84 and always remember the very good times. This was the summer of the inter-camp basketball games where Doc Smith actually got down and dirty in a very intese game with a rival camp. THey were all older fellows, but all were former college players from big time U's. Doc smith got knocked to the ground and ws bloody and a chpped tooth i believe. Good to see so much more come of the late 80's and 90's. |

| I attended this camp when I was about 8-10 years old for two years in a row in the 90's. It was great. I took martial arts, bb shooting, white water rafting, swimming, and I remember the big blob. I loved the song "Camp mishemkwa to you...". Nice to see the site. Lots of good memories. | |||

Unfortunately I lost all my photos in Hurricane Katrina (I was the only camper i remeber from Louisiana). I would love a reunion!!

| I can't remember when I attended camp at Mishemokwa exactly. I think we were in 8th grade which would have made it about 1984-85. My best friend and her little brother and I drove from Richmond, KY that summer to spend two weeks. It was interesting to say the least...lots of lessons learned, new experiences and I can say that "yes", I would send my kids there. Anyway, funny story that led me to actually look up the camp and see if it was still in existence. A friend of mine and I were talking about summer camps we had attended. And of course I mentioned this one. He was like, "Camp What?"...sounding as if I had made it up. I went hunting for the hunter green windbreaker that I had from there and found it to prove it to him. Great times! No life long friendships established, but great pics and as I said life experiences. =) | |||

| I have to confess my husband Googled my name and now I'm FOUND. I went to camp for four years (somewhere in the 79-82 timeframe) and was a CIT for the last two. I married a Marine and now live in Northern VA. I've have three kids (a boy, 8 and two girls, 5 & 3). I'm still tall but no more big hair. I have very good memories of camp and the Smiths. I used to talk to Jim and Bob outside of camp since they taught school at Gulf Breeze Middle School (FL) when I was in high school there. I kept in touch with Mindy Stichweh after camp but have since lost touch with her. I'd be happy to hear from anyone. I think a reunion is a great idea and would go if it comes to be. | |||

I attended Mishemokwa from !959 to 1965. Mr. Elby Sterling Johnson owned the camp then. It was an all boys Basketball camp. Campers came from all over the south. Counselors were from all the Southeast conference basketball programs. The camp lasted 8 weeks every summer. Usually from June 15 till August 15th. Great counselors , junior counselors and campers. There were games every night in the gym.We played all the other camps in the area. We played Rock Mont, Ridgecrest, Chimney Rock, Blue Star,Mondamin, and a group of local ball players called the mountaineers( they were the best). My father ,Coach John Baldwin, was a counselor for 4 r 5 years. My 3 brothers attended also. Our names used to be written all over the cabins and the years we attended. You can still see the names in the gym. We would hike up to Burnt Shirt and Little Pisgah on sunday afternoons. Every Sunday we had Ice cream after supper. On Sunday Nights we had Vespers where all the campers would get together in the chow hall and sing songs. Incredible times. We had formations every AM and every PM for the raising of the flag and lowering of the flag. A bugle woke us every morning and taps put us to sleep every night. |

I don't know why on Earth I was thinking about Camp Mishemokwa last night, but I went ahead and Google'd and lo and behold, found this site. I attended way back in 1968 and 1969, back when it was a boy's basketball camp. I never even knew it was a camp for boys AND GIRLS until coming to this site. Some years ago, maybe 15 or so, I found myself in North Carolina near Asheville and decided to see if I could find the site of my old camp. I was able to find Bat Cave and my memory did still work well enough for me to find the old Camp Mishemokwa! It was at the time abandoned, but I was able to even see my name still scrawled near the top of the wall in the gym! I remember crawling up there and leaning over to write it back then. I found an old album there in the cafeteria from 1969, and there was my picture from back when I was about 13. Wow. What memories. I still have the album which I "borrowed" from the abandoned cafeteria. |

The Smiths probably remember the campwide protest we had before dinner to honor a fallen Hoofman. Ah, good times! | I was a Campower worker in 1993 and performed most of the cleaning/Laundry duties for the camp!! I had the best Summer of my life there. I met friends and people that will always be dear to me and memories still make me smile. I met up with Ryan in Autralia in 2005 nd we talked about our times there as being the best experience at such a young age. It was both of ours first time away from home for such a period of time and it was definately the making of me. I came home a more confident and determined person. The people there were great, although the Smiths were strict and we all struggled with their behaviour at times, but overal we bonded tightly and stuck together and loved each other!! I would love to get in touch with anyone from that summer who remembers me.X

| I was surfing one night and for some reason decided to Google Camp Mishemokwa. - I was there as a 12 year old in 1947 along with many campers from Eastern North Carolina. I am assuming this is the same camp near Chimney Rock and Bear Wallow. - At that time the camp last 8 weeks and it was really roughing it --- It was owned by a Mr. and Mrs Johnson. I now live in New Bern, N.C. and am 72 years old but have very fond memories of that summer. | |||

| Ah, Mishemokwa! Those were the days. Carefree weeks in the carefree mountains of western North Carolina. I was a counselor in the summer of '82 and "taught" algebra and science (yikes, a geek!). My fondest memories include the antics of another counselor, one Jerry Doss, unique beyond description; Angela Cirrotti, a beautiful young lady from Miami; and a group of English counselors, particularly Tony (reminded me of the Artful Dodger from the film, Oliver) and Nick (the Erudite). I still have Nick's copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe, tattered as it is. The summer of 1982 was two years after the eruption of Mount St. Helens, and the North Carolina sunsets were magnificent as the ash from that eruption circled the globe and colored the sky. Mishemokwa is timeless and shall remain a significant part of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with it. | |||

| I can't believe this site exists. I have no idea why I decided today of all days to google my old camp. I think I went to camp around 1988 or 1989. Every session I took all sports classes and played on the basketball and tennis teams. I don't remember too many names, it was a long time ago. Some of my favorite counselers were a couple of British women who taught horseback riding. I also seem to remember a women named Jill, I think she left after a few counselers were let go because they had some fun that the Smiths did not approve of. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar it would be great to hear from you and talk about those days. Later. | |||

| I never thought I would have found my past so easily. I was a counselor for the summer of '91 right after I graduated from college. I had never gone to camp as a camper and I fulfilled a wish I had always had when I worked my brief 6 weeks at Camp Mishemokwa. Today I;m looking for camps to send my two children. I'm determined that they will have the experience of multiple unforgetable summers at camp - the kind that create the lasting memories that are recorded here and cause people to have butterflies when they walk the now cow-pattied paths to the girls cabins. I sincerely hope the new owners are able to bring the camp back to life. I would send my children there in a heartbeat! | |||

| I attended the camp in 1985 when I was 10 years old. I remember being so homesick after a few days there. It turned out to be a fun experience. What prompted me to google Mishemokwa was that I recently bought the dvd "Indian Summer" and it reminded me of my camp experience. Boy, what a blast from the past. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Jennifer, I would love to drop her a line. You CITs were CRAZY and a BLAST. Kristi, Carey, Tommy, Liz, Gaia Bear, and all you others were such a blast. Raquel, I about choked when I saw the picture of Tommy Spain and I in the lipsync contest in your album. I even remember the song we did..."Look Away" by Chicago. The kids in the cabin as backup singers were priceless. I am an IDIOT for not going back the other summer years of my college years. I have great memories of the parties at the hotels in Asheville. I think we were banned from quite a few. I have some funny pictures of Helen and Diane soaked from jumping in the swimming pool fully dressed. I'll post them when I can dig them out. | Man...this goes way back for me. I went to Mishemokwa the 2nd year it opened as a camper. I later became a CIT and then a counselor. I spent many years at this camp going all the way through college. Anyone else out there from the era of 1970's and 80's??? Give me shout if you remember these time... I'd love to hear from anyone and trade old stories. I currently live in Columbus, Ohio. We moved here about 3 years ago after living in Europe. My family and I have lived all around the States and overseas - including New Zealand back in the late 90's. I've been married for 18 years and have 2 children (10 and 7). I work full time as a VP of an engineering company, race bikes (the kind you pedal) and teach spinning. Cheers, Clint | |||

| Can't believe I found this site when trying to find a picture for my wife. Was a cousellor in 1995 and it was one of the best summers ever. Unfortunately lost my luggage in New York so never had any photos. So this site was amazing and i had so many names and memories spring to mind. | |||

| Today I was rummaging through some old photos and found some pictures of me and some old friends at Mishemokwa. Danny Scango, Paul and Greg Knuckols standing in the gym. It brought back some amazing memories. So I looked up camp and here I am. I was truly saddened to see in memory of to my favorite camper Jason Cook. WOW what a kid! He sure helped me when I was there. What a great time and a great place. Hey Jana! | |||

| I decided to google “Mishemokwa” today and look where it brought me. Wow! The memories and images this site has brought back. I attended in 86, 87 and 88 and loved every minute. I’m married with two beautiful daughters and live outside of Boston. I can’t wait for their chance to go to camp. The only person I kept in touch with after camp was Lisa Sieger. We spent many school breaks and summers together in Miami, Gainesville, Maryland and Boston. We lost touch though about 10 years ago. I hope all is well. It’s great to see some familiar names on this site. Special hello to Michelle Cabnet, Amy Sanders (please say hi to Andrew Brown for me), and Raquel (I have this image of you crying to some slow Bon Jovi song and still think of you when I hear it) Does anyone remember that slap game we used to play while waiting to get into the dining hall? Thank you Clay for starting this site. Bodoskideetendoten what I can chew! | |||

| I went there in either '81 or '82 along with my sister who was a year younger than me. I was born in 1970 so I was either 11 or 12 at that time. I stopped by in '99 with my wife to show her the camp...we were also in asheville for vacation. As I drove up the winding gravel road the memories started coming back (riding in the trucks to go tubing or horseback riding). We finally turned the corner and there was the lake and instantly I envisioned those wonder or water wheels that we used to climb all over. I also remembered the canoes and the water slide. The camp was in a sad shape back in '99. But the German lady was very nice and let my wife and I walk around. It was pretty surreal and it took me right back to the dances in the gym and trips to carrowinds amusement park and the underground caverns etc. I'd love to hear from anyone that went to the camp, especially in either 81 or 82. There was this girl that I couldn't wait to dance with and finally got up the courage to dance with at one of the dances. Her name was Meg and she was from Knoxville. Anyone remember her last name? My email is andrewallocco@bellsouth.net happy reading and memories everyone! | |||

| I spent at Camp Mishemokwa my 1991 & 92 summers, all the way from Italy. It's incredible, I was talking about my camp experience a few days ago with my girlfriend, thinking about how it would be so much different today, with the internet, cell phones, and so on. I have a million memories from those summers, and sometimes I still look back at the camp videotapes... | |||

| So excited to find the spirit of the "Black Bear" lives on. My brother Evan got the 7-year award (1983-1990). I fell a couple of years shy, attending 1982 to 1986 as a camper and returning as a C.I.T. in 1988 with Matt Russell, Liz Kniep, Raquel Schor, Pia, (Gaia Bear?), Dennis and many more who I'm sure I'll squeeze to death when I see them again. Carla Eaton must be found! "Mishemokwa to you, we pledge our loyalty" ... who wrote those crazy songs? And why do I remember every word? | |||

| What a great site! I heard about it from my brother, Glenn Hopper, and have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts. I was at camp from 79-85...like others, I was a camper, CIT, and counselor. Then I became camp secretary. I can remember counting the days each year until camp started! It's nice to see so many people here! | |||

| Wow. This is really cool. I attended from 1979 - 1983. I was a camper, then CIT, then worked in the office with Kim Hopper in 1983. I have such great memories of camp. All of the fun, the people and activities, the sweat box (van), the tubing, horseback riding, skit night, camp store, my first summer romance. ah, those were fun summers. Once a bear cub, always a bear cub. | |||

| I went to camp 1900-1993, I was getting ready for bed and I put on an old staff shirt that was given to me. A bunch of people signed it but it has been washed so many times I cant really make out any names. So I figured I would google the camp and found the reunion and though I would look on myspace. My mother Beth was the camp nurse the same years I went. I had a blast the years I went. Dolly wood, stone wall the square dances and scavenger hunts. Ha! | |||

| It's so great to finally have a site like this. I attended camp from 1979-1988 with my sister Kim. I married Amy Keltner from the 1988 staff, and we have 2 children. We've been married 14 years and live in Tampa, Florida. I still have some old camp shirts that I refuse to let go. Those were the best summers and I'm a better person for spending them with all of you. I still miss running around getting ready for all the evening programs. I hope you enjoyed them as much as Bob Smith and I did planning them. | |||

| I was Waterfront Director in 1988. I was so happy to find this site. I would love to see Mishemowka be as wonderful as it was when Dr. & Mrs. Smith had it! After working waterfront there, I went on to work as an Aquatics Specialist and then a Camp Director for a camp serving adults and children with disabilities. I am now a Recreation Director for a Park District in Illinois. I worked with Tamsin Sanders, Sophie Butcher, Lissa McKinney and her brother Junior, Louise Fletcher, Tim (Fletcher I believe), Pia was a CIT, Cris (was a cheerleader for LSU), Stephanie (from the Kitchen), Paula, Jill (basketball from FL), Jill (volleyball from GA) Jeff (from IN), Chuck, and I know I will remember the rest! I have pictures at my parents that I will have to get out for the photo album. It is hard to believe it has been so long ago! But I loved every moment even the clean up before camp opened!?! I loved to share the songs I learned there - was it -- "Going on a Squigy hunt" ? Hmm?Not 100% sure - But it was going to be a big one! Please list the name if you remember. | |||

| It is great to see how everyone has changed. I remember several people from this guestbook. I recently took my friend Michael to see Mishemokwa. By chance some inspectors were there so we got into the camp. Yes, the camp is falling apart. I rode to the top near the girls' cabins to check out our sports field. There was a bunch of cows in it. Many times I have hoped either Bob Smith or Jim would take over and start the camp again. Then I saw how much work would have to be done to get the camp in workable shape. I still hope someday the camp will run again. Of course everything would be different, even the campers. On a personal note, I have received emails from my brother Jason Cook's many friends. Thank you all for taking the time to email me and sharing your thoughts and memories. It brings so much comfort to me to see how many lives he touched. If anyone else would like to email please feel free to do so. I hope we can have a reunion before too long. When I think about Camp Mishemokwa, I think of the campfires and the long hikes up to Mount Pisgah. The grits that would stick to our plates. We used to have competitions to see who could pick the grits up whole on their forks after the grits hardened. The after curfew "socials" we had on the rock campsite near camp. Talent night comes to mind and the blob. So many memories but not enough room in this guestbook to share. Most of all I think about my closest and dearest friends I met at camp and how we still keep in touch. I just finished two years of Peace Corps where I served overseas in a 3rd world country. I could have never survived over there if it had not been for my years at camp. Just like others, my camp experience helped prepare me for life. | |||

My brother Alan and I attended back in '80, '81, and '83. I was 9 in '80, he was 7! I can't believe it has been so long. . . | Wow! I can't believe how this sight has grown. Obvioulsy camp touched a lot of lives in a very, very special way. For the campers, it was a once in a lifetime experience. For counselors, it allowed us to be, if only for a short time, little kids again. It sure is good to hear about all of the good times and positive remembrances. I too would love to hear from anyone!! Mishemokwa helped shaped my life as a young adult, husband, father, and educator. Even though it may have seemed like Dr. and Mrs. Smith were very strict, they knew exactly what they were doing!

| I bumped into Liz Kniep at a local restaurant and she mentioned this website. What a blast from the past. It was such fun to read everyone's entries and see where life has taken us. I was sorry to read about Jason Cook and about the state of the camp. I had heard was that the camp had been sold. I believe it was an environmentally-oriented camp for awhile before the focus turned more toward retreats. It's unfortunate that it has fallen into such disrepair. I attended Camp Mishemokwa from 1985-1988 (two years as a camper, one as a CIT, and one as a Junior Counselor). After many years of a trans-Atlantic relationship, I actually married a fellow counselor in 1995 so Mishemokwa remained a part of my life for a long time after I stopped attending the camp. (Michelle Cabnet was at the wedding.) Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce about three years ago, but I have a lot of wonderful memories and a fabulous five year-old daughter as a result. I continue to work with kids as a Lower Schoool Director at a private elementary school. | |||

She was one of the horseback instructors. I haven't had any luck finding her address. I remember her mentioning something about Jason passing away, but don't remember the details either. | Hi Just happened upon this site by accident whilst looking for a pic of Camp M to show a friend! I was Unit leader/Horseback Director for 4 seasons ('94-'97), those first three seasons were the best summers of my life. As an English girl, first time abroad/flying, I was welcomed by Doc & Mrs Smith and their family and 4 days into staff orientation, couldn't believe I had got to know a bunch of strangers so quickly! For me the horses were the highlight (obviously), and I am sad to hear that the Pryors home and barn/fields are no longer in use. I kept in touch with them both for a few years, along with the Smiths, although haven't heard from either for a couple years now. It's great that so many people had these memories and some are still keeping in touch. Be great to hear from anyone who was around those years - I am in touch with Janince Weisman (FL) still, have met up a couple of times since. All the best, Ruth

| I'm totally blown away to find this site and take a walk down memory lane! It's unbelievable to me to think that 22 years has gone by since my first summer. Finding this site brought me right back as if 22 years had never happened. But it also makes me feel really old now too! It's like looking at something or someone that I really thought I'd never see or hear from again. Until now it has all been locked in a little time capsule in my head. There are these names and faces and places here that will remain with me eternally and helped to make up part of the person I am today. There are only so many true bonding experiences that we have in life with others and this place holds a good share of those for me. Now the time capsule opens back up and the dust is blown off and we can give our questions some answers, our lives some perspective, and our hearts a blast of nostalgia. Jason Cook was my best friend at camp for almost my entire time there. He was a perfect representation of the kind of person that made this place more than just a camp. His soul lives on through all of us. Raquel Schor, Debbie Pearlman, Louise Fletcher, Jeff Carpenter, Dina Honig, Stewart, Phil, Tim, Flipper, and all my campers I miss you all deeply. Thank you for being a part of my life. I can be reached by e-mailing me at elees@choiceonecom.com | |||

| Wow!! This site has grown since the last time I made an entry! I just checked the list of people we are looking for .. and noticed a name on it that we won't be hearing from ... and as a form of remembrance and honor .. I have to tell you why. I occasionally would search for fellow campers over the past 15 years, as I'm sure you all have .. and one day I went on a search for Jason Cook. I remembered many, many summers spent laughing with him ... and, in fact, he won the 7-year attendance trophy the year before I did. We were close friends, but lost touch after we both stopped attending camp. I'm a television journalist and used some of my resources (don't tell my station!) to track down Jason's whereabouts. I was stunned and so very sad to learn he had died. I conducted this search several years ago, so forgive me if some of the details are sketchy ... but from what I could gather, Jason joined the military at some point. However, he did not die while serving .. but at home in Washington, North Carolina sometime in his early 20's. The obituary from the local newspaper was very vague. I was under the impression it was either a medical condition or accident. I believe I wrote a letter to his family offering my condolences at the time .. but never heard back. So .. we will never actually "find" Jason Cook. He is lost to us forever. But please see the "Schor Pictures" in the Photo Album section of this website and you will see Jason and remember him. I'm so sorry to add such a sad note to this website .. but I think it's important. I would want to be remembered in the same way. | |||

| I found this site quite by accident (happily). I only attended camp for one summer in 1983, but had such a great time! I learned to play guitar at camp and continue to play to this day with my wife and 2 kids. I lived in Naples, FL back then, but now I'm in central New Jersey. I only remember a few of the girls' names from that summer: Anne Russell, Anne Ross (who went as each other for the ABC dance) and a CIT named Laura Gentry from Pensacola, FL. Odd and sad to pictures of the current state of camp.... | |||

| Carla Segurola told me about this site, and I was happy to find it. I went to Mishemokwa for six summers, as a camper from 1990 to 1993 and then as a CIT in 1994 and 1995. I am originally from St. Louis, Mo., but was so taken by the beauty of North Carolina that I went to college there (Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). I'm still in touch with a few people, including Carla, Debi Jolly, Jenelle Shriner and Ashley King, all of whom were CIT's with me. I wanted to continue going as a counselor but had summertime conflicts in high school. While I was going to university in North Carolina, I popped up to the camp grounds a few times with Jenelle. The new owners, who had turned it into some kind of retreat, were very nice and let us walk around. The cabins had been upgraded a little, and the lower lake had been drained, but mostly everything was the same (though I haven't been in about five years ... I live in Texas now). I loved those summers and the friends I made, and I was sad to learn the camp had been discontinued. | |||

| I'm so happy to have found this website, I hope that efforts continue to preserve Mishemokwa as a camp as well as the memories. I have never forgotten the time I spent there - I first started going in '91 when I was 12 and eventually became a CIT and my last year was a counselor in '96. I remember every corner of that camp like it was yesterday, and I am still in touch with John who I met at camp that first year - and has been my best friend every since (half a lifetime later!). We talk about camp all the time and reminisce, it is never far from our thoughts and we are both all grown up and doing well! I sent him a link to this site, I'm sure he will be happy to find it. If we had the money, we'd buy camp back too. I'm glad I haven't gone back to visit, I would hate to see it in some sort of delapidated condition or very different from how I left it. This camp was the best thing that ever happened in my childhood, and if I ever have kids I would love to send them there. It's too bad that option is no longer available, I hope that changes. | Hi all, I'll never forget the camp experience I had whilst a brit abroad councellor for the summer of 1988. It's a long time ago now but I still have fond memmories of the friends I made and the experiences gained. I have spoken to some that were councellors that year but have lost touch now. The nights out were a great release from the daily pressures and I'll never forget the Dave Smith eyebrow removing moment! Dave is married now and was living near Boston with his wife Wendy. Good luck with the re-union but I think its a little too far for me to travel from England. | |||

| hi folks. i was a Councilor at Mishemokwa during summer of 96, the last year of Doc & mrs Smith. It was a fantastic 3 months. I was due to return the following year but life took over and I was unable to do so. Great times were had at the Mountaineer and the house at Lake Lure as well as the camp itself. Shame the camp has fallen into a state of disrepair. | |||

| Hi Everyone, Its so good to remember all the great times we had a camp, I was a councilor in 92 and visited the camp in 93. The summer I spent at camp was so much fun. It would be great to catch up with everyone from 92. Do you remember "Lambeth!" Lambeth you've never seen, the grass an't green and the ....... We play a differnet way not like you but a bit more gay! I keep in touch with Sibbo, Sean Smith and Jeff Barton and would love to hear from anyone from 92. Sibbo and I are thinking about coming to the reunion but camp is a long way from Sunny Essex, England. I will have to do lots of sweet talking to my wife! | |||

| How incredible. I served as counselor and unit leader for 5 wonderful years. The memories are still very strong and vivid. The kids were the best part. The Smith's kept their expectations and values high, something I believe is lost in today's society. I currently live near Muncie, IN and serve as principal of an elementary school building ( who's colors are green and white!!). I am married and have three wonderful boys. While I probably cannot make it to the reunion I do want to hear from former co-workers and campers. Without you I would not be where I am today!!! | |||

| Even now I can't believe how many times as a counsellor that I had to watch "Dirty Dancing" and yet I still watch it everytime that it comes on the TV and remember all the good times we had at Camp. I had two really enjoyable summers working on the summer camp and still keep in touch with Michelle Cabnet (now Michelle Wilde). They always say life long friendships are made at American Summer Camps. It's true!!! | |||

| I can't believe it - I almost cried when I saw this! What a great idea for a reunion. My summers at Camp Mishemokwa ('85-'88) were the BEST summers of my life and I think about the memories often. I currently live in Woodstock, GA (north of Atlanta) with my husband and 2 daughters. I would love to attend the reunion, but I will have to see. My 2nd daughter's 1st birthday is that weekend. If you went to camp with me during those years, don't hesitate to email me: lb92698@earthlink.net. | |||

| Camp was my home away from home! I have so many special and wonderful memories of summers in North Carolina. I have so many pictures from camp that I would love to share. I am very excited about the idea of a reunion. I will plan on attending if we can put it together. I would love to help arrange this event. My husband and I live in Atlanta and visit NC often. A few years back I visited camp during the Fall. It was dead! The putt putt coarse was overgrown and lots of the cabins were falling apart. It was sad to see, but just being there brought back so many memories. I keep in touch with about 10 people still from camp. Those friendships have become everlasting. | |||

| Hello everyone! It is SO great to have this website!! My hubby & I currently live in Asheville, NC (yep, right near the Mountaineer motel!)! I actually worked a couple miles from Chimney Rock! We are in the process of moving down to Atlanta, but count me in for the reunion! What a GREAT idea! Camp Mishemokwa holds so many memories for me! We are expecting our first child, a little girl, in March, so camp has really been on my mind lately & all of the amazing people I met there! | |||
